A cup of maturity, a few shards of shattered ignorance, and a pinch of APUSH knowledge… mix it all together and I get a very different perspective of Disneyland. Realizing that the “stars” in Space Moutain are disco lights, marveling over the engineers’ craftsmanship of the electronic Pirates of Caribbean figurines (moreso than the ride itself), and noting the shrewd exit-Haunted-Mansion-and-enter-gift-shop marketing gimmick, I was kinda startled at how different this “happiest place on earth” seemed. Lots and lots of fake. But it’s not Disneyland that has changed, but me. It’s sort of hard to admit and sort of depressing to acknowledge, but I’m just not a kid anymore.

But don’t get me wrong. Disneyland still holds a very precious piece of real estate in my heart. My Dad’s favorite DLand memory was when I was like three and he held me in his arms at midnight, When You Wish Upon A Star playing and all… We reenaxted that tonight and I’m still bleary-eyed from crying :’( feeeels.

Well, if you’d scroll down my tumblr and see me unleashing the feels 24/7, I’d need not tell you the aforementioned book that I think everyone should read (hint: it’s the kite runner).

What summer programs are you doing?

I got accepted to a handful of programs and internships, but am taking a risk and pursuing my passion instead of impressing admissions officers. I’ll be interning overseas for the Singapore Kindness Movement (it’s a NPO) and attending this program called “Yale Young Global Scholars”. :)
